What to do with Spring Cleaned Junk

spring clean junk

Spring cleaning is a time to refresh your home and reevaluate what’s in it. As you go room by room, you’ll find items you need, love, have been meaning to get rid of, or even forgot you had. Here are some options on what to do with all that spring cleaned junk.

  1. Recycle. Some items are easy to recycle. While you can toss piles of paper and plastic containers into a recycling bin, electronics and other potentially hazardous items have a different recycling process. Check your local area for designated recycling centers to properly dispose of batteries, broken tech, and outdated devices.
  2. Repurpose. It’s another way of recycling that results in something new for you. Give old furniture, scrap wood, and other household items a new life.
  3. Re-gift. If there’s something you’ve never used, but you know someone who could use it, give that item a new home and that person a practical gift.
  4. Sell. For other unused items or valuables you no longer want, sell them online or at retailers.
  5. Donate. Gently used clothes, toys, books, and other items are typically accepted across a wide range of organizations. There are also buy-nothing groups online where you can post items for local pick-up.
  6. Trash. If the item is broken, unusable, and can be disposed of safely, throw it away.

If you’ve gone to the trouble of spring cleaning and sorting items you don’t need or want anymore, don’t let them sit around your home collecting more dust. Try to part with the piece as soon as possible. Your refreshed space will be easier to organize to help prevent more junk from piling up.
