Spring Garden Cleaning
What Needs To Go So Plants Can Grow

Now that the weather is getting warmer, it’s time to get your yard in shape for spending more time outside. From the patio to the lawn, there’s a lot of spring garden clean up to do and even more debris to get rid of.
Cleaning up garden beds is important to help refresh your space, regrow some plants, and reduce the potential for weeds and disease. The late winter to early spring months are ideal for pruning, planting, and establishing cleaner landscaped lines. Here’s some of the yard waste you’ll want to get rid of before things start blooming:
- Dead plants
- Diseased stems
- Broken branches
- Moldy leaves
- Weeds
Before venturing into the garden, wait until temperatures are consistently warm to help ensure any pollinators are done hibernating in your plant stems. You’ll also want to wait until the ground has thawed and dried out a little to help prevent soil compaction.
Cleaning Out the Garden Shed
Now is also the time to take stock of your shed of all the garden tools that may or may not make it through the season. If you haven’t already cleaned out the space after your fall clean up, it’s time to get rid of these items now:
- Broken pots
- Rusty tools
- Torn or faded decor
- Stained outdoor furniture
If you washed your patio set before storing it for the winter, it should only need wiping down before bringing back out. But it’s a good idea to refresh cushions and other furniture you’ll be sitting on or eating from.
Tidying the Landscape
Nature has a way of reclaiming outdoor spaces from your garden beds and pathways to the deck and pergola. Take some time to edge beds and remove grass, pull weeds from pathways and patios, and sweep and power wash the sturdier surfaces such as stone and brick.
While the weather is still comfortable, it could be a great time to tackle some of those larger projects, like extending an outdoor space, fire pit area, or redesigning your garden. Some of this construction could leave you with excess dirt and other building materials.
If you have a lot of leftover yard waste from your spring clean up projects, it would be helpful to call a professional to come pick it up. From large piles of debris and pruned tree limbs to mounds of dirt and old bricks, JDog Junk Removal & Hauling can take it away so all you have left to do is enjoy the outdoors.
