What Can You Do With Old Pallets?

Wood pallets you don't need

Something big is arriving! If you’re about to receive a large shipment of building materials or equipment, there’s a chance it will arrive on a pallet. These sturdy, flat platforms help support, stack, and move goods from warehouses to shipping containers. If one is lucky enough to land on your property, you’re not only getting what you ordered, but there are so many uses for pallets.

Some people purposely buy pallets for a wide variety of practical projects and/or home and garden decor, including:

  • Planters
  • Furniture
  • Structures
  • Storage
  • Wall art

Since pallets are so versatile, if you have one you don’t need, there are plenty of ways to get rid of it.

  1. Sell. List them on local online marketplaces or contact pallet companies.
  2. Recycle. Contact your local recycling center to see if they accept the wood.
  3. Compost. Chip the wood for garden mulch or break it up for heating fuel.

Before you do any DIY, selling, or burning, check what the pallets are made of. If they’re chemically treated, you shouldn’t burn it or use it indoors. You should also consider sanding and cleaning the wood for a better finish and to prevent splintering.

Not interesting in selling or DIY? Contact JDog Junk Removal & Hauling to come pick up your pallets. We’ll make sure they’re put to good use or disposed of in the proper way.
