What to Do with Kitchen Junk Ahead of the Holidays

Are you getting around your home to host again this holiday season? If you’re making updates, it can be challenging to decide what to do with your now redundant kitchen items. Learn what you can do with kitchen junk like old appliances and unwanted tables and chairs ahead of the holiday season.

What to Do with Kitchen Junk Ahead of the Holidays

Kitchen Table Sets

Instead of sending it out to the landfill, consider these options:

  1. Sell it. If your old kitchen table is in good condition, you might be able to sell it on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay. If it’s not in tip-top shape, consider selling it at a discount for those who are up for a refinishing project.
  2. Donate it. Many charity organizations take kitchen tables that are still in good condition. The donation might not be the right choice if your table is in major need of TLC.
  3. Refinish it. Are you a handy DIYer? Instead of buying a new kitchen table, refinish the one you currently have! Sand it down and restain or paint it.
  4. Think outside the kitchen. Could your basement use an area to eat, or do you need a craft table? Consider moving your table to another area of your home.
  5. Recycle it. Did you know tables and chairs can be broken up into pieces and recycled? But, don’t expect your recycling crew to pick it up from the curb. You’ll probably need to call around and find a recycling facility in your area.

Kitchen Appliances

Similar to kitchen table sets, there are many things you can do with old appliances to keep them out of the landfill.

  1. See if the delivery company will take it away. Did you know many stores offer to take your old appliances when they drop off the new ones? Check to see if the supplier of your new appliance has this option.
  2. Sell it. Similar to your kitchen table, you might actually be able to sell your old appliance if it’s still in working shape.
  3. Donate it. Charity organizations in your area could be looking for old appliances to give to someone in need. Call around and see if any place is accepting them.
  4. Recycle it. Many parts of your kitchen appliances can be recycled when disassembled properly. You can call local recycling facilities to see what your options are.
